PROMOTIONAL BIO (short)
“Aaron Ivey believes that all worship is a response to a creative and compelling God.  Serving as one of the worship pastors at The Austin Stone (www.austinstone.org), Aaron now views touring ministry as an extension of what goes on within a vibrant, healthy local church.  With a passion for living out God’s word, compassion for God’s children, and a deep, abiding love of God, Aaron and his bandmates are challenging a generation of believers to take their experiences in corporate worship out into the world, to marry song with service.”

BIOGRAPHY (full)
“The role of the artist is crucial in worship; it is a response to a creative and compelling God, and our response to such a God should be engaging, artful, and whole-hearted.”

Aaron Ivey is challenging a generation of believers to take their experiences in corporate worship out into the world, to marry song with service.  An advocate for those in need, Aaron has been living out the word of God not only through music, but by engaging in a lifestyle devoted to missions and justice, and educating others about poverty and adoption.  Aaron and his wife, Jamie, have four children, two of which are still living in Haiti as the adoption process continues.  “Having two children that I already know and love that live in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere has been the most challenging thing I’ve ever experienced.  It has brought a sobering reality to the fact that millions of children are in need of adoption and support.”  In light of this, Aaron has partnered with Compassion International (www.compassion.com) and works to present their mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Aaron began leading worship as a college student, and continued as a youth minister at a local church in Sugar Land, Texas.  After five years in Nashville as a member of the band SPUR58, Aaron and his family, along with Jimmie Ingram, Steven Bush and their families,  moved back to Texas, this time to Austin, to lead worship at The Austin Stone.  “The move from Nashville to Austin was a transition to work much more intently in the life of local community.  Everything we do on the road now is an extension of living and serving in the local setting.”  Aaron believes that for a worship leader to be effective in their job on the road, it is crucial to be involved in serving with a local body of believers.  He feels incredibly humbled and privileged to worship and serve with the people at The Austin Stone.  “I’ve been a part of some fantastic events on the road, still my favorite place to lead worship is at my home church.”

Aaron and bandmates Jimmie Ingram (guitar) and Steven Bush (bass) have served in ministry together since 2003.  Philip Ellis (drums) joined the group in Austin in 2009.  While they are all passionate about leading worship on the road, each is involved in serving the local church in Austin.  Aaron counts himself blessed to be able to make music and minister alongside his close friends.

Aaron’s most recent project is Between the Beauty and the Chaos (now available on iTunes and on aaronivey.com).  Creating the record in a new place and with friends has been an amazing experience for Aaron and his band.  “Most of the record was tracked at my home studio.  Friends played cello, sang background and gang vocals in my living room.  Other friends lent gear and guitars.”  The sincerity and truthfulness of their own experiences with God and his world echo through every moment of this new record.  “It seems chaos is everywhere. Tragedy, hunger, brokenness and darkness can be found around every corner. From our backyards to the shores of distant countries, the need for the Light of Christ has never been more apparent. And with this hope that we have in Christ, chaos can become beauty.”
