Bragging on My Sovereign GOD

Well, let’s just brag on God a bit, shall we?

  • Story finally came home from Haiti Friday night! We’ve trust God for almost 2 years to bring our girl home to us. We’ve waited, hoped, cried. In His kindness He saw it fit to wait just long enough. Long enough to teach us how to trust — how to plead & hope — how to find confidence & trust in Him. It’s ONLY God who could have worked the miraculous in releasing her.
  • On the exact day that she started feeling sick (now we know it was meningitis), God saw it fit to release her from Haiti. Her visa home was issued the same day she started feeling the symptoms of sickness. God saw it fit to let her leave Haiti a little sooner than her brother Amos, so that she could get the care she needed. Without this care in USA, who knows what could have happened
  • As soon as she landed in ATX, Jamie took her to the ER at Dell Children’s Hospital. How beautiful that God saw it fit to have one of the best children’s hospitals in TX in our hometown.
  • ER nurses took her immediately in because of where she came from and her condition. ER doctor (Dr. Orlando) came in and said, “Are you Aaron Ivey’s wife? I go to The Austin Stone and we’re going to take great care of his little girl.” How brilliant that God would allow a familiar person to be the ER doctor at 10pm on a random Friday night.
  • several ER nurses remembered and knew Jamie from when Fedna & Bear were in the hospital
  • Even though Story was admitted into the hospital the same day she entered the USA, our insurance had no issues covering her fully.
  • Our community of friends has surrounded Jamie and the kids as I’ve been gone in AR. That is a beautiful picture of the Church…and the local church! Our church The Austin Stone has surrounded us in amazing ways!! I’m reminded of God’s purposeful creation of community as I see friends sacrifice, serve, and go out of there way to make us comfortable in the midst of crisis. Beautiful.
  • 35+ people from our community/church showed up at the airport with balloons, tears, and posters welcoming Story home to Austin. They share in the excitement of a former orphan finding her home.
  • a friend donated a TON of airline miles to purchase Jamie’s ticket from Austin to Dallas to Miami to Port-Au-Prince and back…1 day before the actual flight. that would have cost thousands of dollars. what a sacrifice on their part. What a sovereign gift of God…to allow friends to have enough miles to cover last minute flights.
  • another friend donated a TON of airline miles to purchase my ticket from Memphis to Austin 1 day before i needed it. that saved nearly $1,000
  • As I got on the plane in Memphis, I met Pilot Joe on my Delta flight. He recognized me and said, “hey are you Aaron Ivey? from the Austin Stone? I’m a partner there!” He knew a bit about our Story and said he and his fiance would be praying for her.
  • I went and got ice from the ice machine down the hall of the 3rd floor of Dell Children’s today, another doctor I hadn’t met turned to me and said, “Well, I guess you won’t be leading at church today?!” I said, “no I guess not! And, do you go to The Stone?” She smiled and said, “Yes I do…and how is your little girl?” wow…
  • The Gospel has been illustrated brilliantly as Story’s journey has led her here. Although the journey is laced with pain & suffering – the love of the Father for His children sustains & keeps.

If you can’t see the sovereignty of a holy God in Story’s journey, you’re blind! Never have I seen the GOSPEL more perfectly illustrated than in this. And as much as I love Story…and want to do ANYTHING & EVERYTHING for her…how much MORE does my Father in Heaven love his very own sons & daughters…you and me…

That was BEATUIFUL! And echoed so much of what I’ve felt this past week as I followed Story’s journey home. God’s soverignty… his mighty hand is at play. For me, it’s conviction… to tell me that yes, He does exist; Yes, He does listen to the hearts of the wounded, broken and hurt; and YES he is STILL and will ALWAYS be in the miracle working business.

Hi Aaron. We went to HS together. I have heard parts of your journey from Debra and Ernest. It’s the coolest thing to see people leaving out their faith.

    Wow, God is amazing!!

I am almost man enough to admit that I was unable to read this aloud to my wife without crying (I didn’t cry…ok…i did). What an amazing, purposeful, loving, faithful God we serve. We will continue praying for Story and and the rest of your family and we will look forward with hope to the day that God brings Amos to the home in Austin that is aching for his arrival.
