iron chef of christmasJune 22, 2008 Awake release jamie and i had a full house this weekend. it was great. i think our love language is having people over and cooking a meal for them. i love sitting around a table, talking, and enjoying food together. i think our culture has lost a little bit of that magic. if you’ve been out of the country (especially 3rd world countries), you know that someone inviting you into their house for a meal is a BIG deal. jamie and i want to always have people in our house. we love it. this weekend, we decided to do the normal “Christmas lunch thing” since Christmas Eve is busy for me…it worked out better to do something early rather than on Christmas day. so we invited the Beakley crew over for lunch on Saturday. we had 9 adults, 3 kids, and 3 dogs filling up the house. jamie seriously spent 3 days baking desserts and such. she also made Jack Daniels Carrots…which were the best carrots i’ve ever tasted, obviously. i grilled up some chicken and salmon, made mashed potatoes, and this crazy macaroni cheese thing. it was fantastic to be the Iron Chef of Christmas for the people we love. made me think about how much work our parents always put into these lunches and dinners every year. now that we actually were in charge of all the groceries, cooking, and hospitality, i realize how much work hosts do around the holidays when families come into town. made me really grateful for all the times we show up at one of our parents houses, and there is a spread of amazing food… so next time i see Karen or my mom standing in the kitchen cooking ALL day, i’ll be so much more grateful… because i know they’re doing it because they LOVE their family. we’ll be with my family the day after Christmas, and i’m sure my mom will be cooking her face off as well. so when you show up at your Christmas lunch or dinner, make sure you love on the person standing over the stove! because they rock.kryptos.mp3 Leave a Reply |
